On June 14th, 2018, a new chapter was started when Character Development was recorded and published as the first Life of an Architect podcast episode. Recorded bi-weekly, Bob Borson and Andrew Hawkins discuss all things architecture … with a little bit of life thrown in for balance.
We are on all available platforms but if you have any issues finding us just let us know and someone will help you out.
If you would like additional information on the podcast, along with information on how we might be able to collaborate, please feel free to reach out to Bob Borson directly.

Meet the Hosts
Bob Borson
Dallas architect Bob Borson, FAIA, is widely recognized as the blogger behind Life of an Architect—one of the world’s most popular architectural blogs. As an emerging voice within the architectural community, he has bridged the gap and engaged multiple generations of architects and architectural enthusiasts by sharing his personal experiences, professional practice tips, and anecdotes on what it’s like to work with and be an architect.
Bob was recognized by the Dallas AIA as “Young Architect of the Year” in 2009, received the Award for Excellence in the Promotion of Architecture through the Media from the Texas Society of Architects in 2015, and was elevated into the American Institute of Architects College of Fellows in 2017.
Today, he is a Principal and Senior Designer at BOKA Powell – a Dallas-based architectural firm with 110+ employees, whose work covers a broad range of market sectors including Single-Family Residential, Commercial Office, Higher Education, Corporate Campus, and Interior Architecture projects located around the country.
Fun Factoid: Still believes that if he trained “just a little” he could run a 5-minute mile, despite the fact that he isn’t now, nor has he ever been, a runner … or athletic.
Andrew Hawkins
Andrew Hawkins, AIA is the president + principal architect of Hawkins Architecture, a Texas-based small firm that focuses on education and civic projects across the state of Texas. Having stepped into firm ownership at a younger age, he quickly realized the challenges involved and consistently strives to increase his efficiency and knowledge about firm leadership, firm culture and the evolving practice of architecture. Andrew operates his practice with an atmosphere of open collaboration and learning believing that both are essential to a successful firm.
Andrew is active within the AIA at many levels. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Texas Society of Architects and as the President of his local chapter, AIA Brazos. Andrew was recognized as the “Young Architect of the Year” in 2013 by AIA Brazos. All of this involvement has created many opportunities and fostered meaningful relationships that have advanced his professional development. It has also introduced him to great people in the AEC industry who he now considers close friends.
Andrew has written for AIA National, Texas Architect Magazine, and various architectural websites. He has also presented on social media, mobile technologies, and firm development at conferences around the country and internationally. Andrew is also a design studio instructor in the Department of Architecture at Texas A&M University.
Fun Factoid: Andrew has a rather large collection of current pop culture and geek related art and art prints. He even has a few pieces commissioned by artists for his collection.
